Orting Community Baptist Church was started by Pastor Dean Bousman and his wife, Gwen, and family in January of 1980. The first service was held on January 18, 1980, with 13 out the first Sunday!  Charles and Vera Patten, who had prayed for 20 years for a work to be started in Orting, saw the answer to their prayers.

In 1987 the church constitution was voted on and accepted, and we purchased 2.8 acres at 308 Kansas St. S.W. for $43,500, as a building site in Orting.  In 1984, the Lord enabled us to borrow $100,000 from N.W. Baptist Home Mission’s Revolving Fund for what is now our old sanctuary/fellowship hall. We broke ground in January of 1985.  The people showed they had a mind to work.

In May of 1987, our beloved Pastor Dean Bousman read a letter of intent to resign on July 31, with a willingness to stay if needed ‘till another man of God was called.  Pastor Dean Bousman felt the leading of the Lord to take his family and continue in church planting.  In June of 1987, we asked Dale Gore to be our next pastor.  He came on the staff as our pastor on Aug. 1, 1987 and has continued with the same spirit of reaching out to the lost, and helping new believers to grow in the Lord.  At the time, we dedicated our newly built church facilities in 1988.

In 1996, we called Bob White to be our first Youth/Assistant Pastor. He was on our staff for 7 years until he became Principal of Tacoma Baptist High School, and then Superintendent.

On Sept. 23, 2007, we broke ground to build our new sanctuary which we now appreciate and enjoy each time we meet.  The history of the Orting Community Baptist Church has proven and continues to be one of seeing souls saved, discipled, and added to the church.  The Good Lord continues to bless our Church, and we praise God from whom all blessings flow!
